North Alabama Shoals Hospital Upgrades MRI Technology
September 10, 2024
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala., – North Alabama Shoals Hospital celebrated the arrival a new SIGNA™ Voyager MRI scanner on Tuesday, Sept. 10th. The advanced imaging technology integrates the latest in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with the sophisticated engineering of a 1.5T wide-bore system.
The new system features contemporary architecture that enhances signal penetration and produces sharper, high-quality images. Designed with patient comfort in mind, the flexible coil design and innovative applications significantly reduce scan times while improving image quality.
“Our entire team is excited to welcome the new MRI unit into our facility,” said Braxton Holloway, Chief Operating Officer at North Alabama Shoals Hospital. “We are enhancing both the quality of care and the experience we provide to our patients with upgraded technology and a fully renovated MRI suite.”
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a cornerstone asset in any hospital imaging department. Utilizing a powerful magnet, radio waves, and a computer, MRIs generate detailed digital images of the inside of a patient’s body. They are particularly effective for visualizing soft structures such as organs and for identifying areas of bleeding, making them essential for diagnosing and monitoring conditions in the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and beyond.
The new MRI suite has been designed with patient privacy in mind, featuring a private changing room, bathroom, and waiting area. This capital investment project also includes the installation of copper plates to line the room, which will shield the MRI from external magnetic interference and contain the magnetic field within the operational area. The previous MRI, which had been in service for approximately 20 years, was removed on June 21.
